When Your Car Doesn’t Sound Right

Some people think your eyes are important for safe driving. It’s true, but you also need your ears to alert you to unusual sounds coming from your car.

After driving your car for a while, you will be able to familiarize yourself with how your car sounds. Be alert to any sounds that are out of the ordinary. The louder and more frequent that sound gets, the more urgent attention it needs. If you continue to ignore these car noises, it could cost you.

Remember: If it doesn’t sound right, then something isn’t right.

Here are some car sounds that can alert you to trouble:

Screeching and/or grinding when you brake. A screeching sound usually means your brake pads are worn and need to be replaced. If you continue to ignore these sounds and they turn into a louder, grinding noise, this would indicate that there are no pads left and the rotors need to be replaced.

Squealing noise under the hood. A squealing sound could indicate that your car’s drive belt is cracked or worn and needs to be replaced. A new drive belt is inexpensive, but if you ignore this sound, the belt could break and your car could lose its power steering, and overheat, damaging its engine cooling system.

Rattling noise under the car. This noise could mean a loose muffler or a loose pipe, or your catalytic converter may need work.

Loud bang under the car.  Your engine is misfiring and could be due to a damaged spark plug or valve malfunction, a cracked distributer cap or incorrect engine timing.

Car growls when turning. This noise could be could indicate that your car’s front wheel bearing is defective. Get your car checked right away. A bad wheel bearing could leave you stranded on the road.

Many of these problems can be prevented with regular service and maintenance of your car.

How do I negotiate a used car a dealership?

Date: July 19, 2018 | Category: Car Shopping

You’re buying a used car because you know it has more value than purchasing a new vehicle. Cars that are around two years old are especially a good deal since their new car value has dropped nearly 50 percent from their original sticker price.

In any negotiation, knowledge is power. Once you have an idea of the kind of car you’d like to purchase, do your research on what the car is worth used. Check the Kelley Blue Book or the National Automobile Dealer Guide Official Used Car Guide to get both retail value and wholesale value of the car.
